Larry Beatty - Mens Track and Field - Head Coach

Position:
Men's Track & Field Head Coach
Distance/Hurdles
USATF Level I & II

One of the best indicators of respect is how your peers rate you.  Beatty has been selected as cross country Coach of the Year eight times and track Coach of the Year sixteen times by his fellow coaches.  Even more impressive, he was voted the NWAACC Coach of the Year for all sports in 1995.

From 1990 to 1992, Larry served as assistant track coach and associate head coach for cross country at Western Oregon State College, where he coached seven All-Americans.

The 1994 season was the first track and field head coaching experience for Larry Beatty and he proved worthy of the position by guiding Clark College to its first track and field title since becoming a member of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).  Proving this was no fluke his team won the title again in 1995.

He came to the Community Colleges of Spokane in the fall of 1996 to revive a once dominate program, and in his first year, his men won the NWAACC track title.  The men’s team has won the NWAACC championships ten out of the last twelve years and the women have won nine NWAACC Championships in the last twelve years.

Coach Beatty was an outstanding athlete in his own right.  He was the NWAACC Champion in the 400 hurdles while at Green River Community College in 1984.  He then attended the University of Portland where he ran 51.91 in the 400 hurdles.  After graduating from Portland he ran for Nike Oregon International where he ran 1:50.38 in the 800, 3:47 in the 1500 and 9:17 in the 3k steeplechase.

Coach Beatty’s enthusiasm is contagious and has contributed to a record number of participants in Spokane‘s track and field program.  Larry and his wife Brenda have three wonderful children, two sons, Hunter Joseph and Micah Alazar, and a daughter, Jaedyn Koral.  He is a faculty member in the Physical Education Department at Spokane Community College.
