Spokane Bounces Back in Nightcap of Double Header at Big Bend

Spokane split an Eastern Region double header with Big Bend on Saturday afternoon. Spokane lost the first game 2-1. Starter Cam Christian took the loss despite of an outstanding performance on the mound. Christian threw a complete game. Christian didn’t allow a Viking hit until the fifth inning and allowed just three hits on the day. The Sasquatch had the tying and winning runs in scoring position in the ninth inning with one out but couldn’t bring them across. Spokane scored one run in eight hits in the game. Spokane was led by Cam Christian, Kelly Gau and Colby Crawford with two hits apiece in the game.
Spokane bounced back in the second game to earn a split on the day. Spokane scored five runs in the eighth inning to take the lead 6-5 and three runs in the ninth to put the game away. Spokane’s bullpen threw five scoreless innings. Stewart Macy earned his first win of the season in relief. Mike Richard came on in the ninth to earn his first save of the season. Spokane had eleven hits in the game. Kelly Gau led the way with three hits. Freshman Outfielder Derek Carley added two hits for Spokane.
Spokane will travel to Walla Walla on Wednesday afternoon to play the Warriors before returning home on Saturday afternoon.
