The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for May is Heather Jackson, a sophomore shortstop who helped the CCS softball team to it’s 13th league championship this spring.  She led her team in most offensive statistics and as a Team Captain.   She was the leading hitter with a .465 batting average. She led the team in hits (80), doubles (24), runs scored (67), and she has hit 3 triples and 3 homeruns. She has 172 at bats, walked 12 times and only struck out 3 times the entire season. Heather also led the team in stolen bases with 20. Though she hit lead-off, she drove in 31 runs, second highest on the team.  Head coach Janet Skaife said, “Jackson is a competitor; she comes from an athletic family who all have the intense desire to compete from the moment the first pitch is thrown until the last out is recorded. She is one of those rare athletes who you don’t have to tell to focus. She is all business and those around her are better players because of her infectious work ethic.”  In early April, Jackson signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I softball for the Weber State Wildcats.  On May 12th Heather was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award for the Eastern Region.  On May 15th Heather was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-American Team for the NWAACC. Heather serves as a representative on the college’s District Athletic Committee, is a physical therapy major and is currently maintaining a 3.41 g.p.a.

Congratulations Heather!

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for May is Colby Crawford. Spokane Baseball is proud to have Colby Crawford as the June selection for Scholar-Athlete of the Month for CCS.

Colby is from Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee where he had a successful career as a pitcher and position player.  During his time at Spokane, Colby was used as a starting and relief pitcher as well as an outfielder and designated hitter.  This season Colby hit .320 and had a 3.22 earn run average in 36+ innings of work.

Colby has been a wonderful student in the classroom earning above a 3.5 g.p.a. on his way to his AA degree.  As a sophomore in our program, Colby has led by example in displaying the characteristics of a true student-athlete.  He is a tireless worker in the classroom and on the field that other players try to emulate.  Colby will be moving onward and upward to a four-year university where he plans to earn his degree and continue playing baseball.

Congratulations Colby!
