Volleyball Season Preview/Review
2008-09 Season Preview
There are six veteran sophomores returning to the roster:
Molly Blankenship, outside hitter from Priest River, ID (Priest River Lamanna HS)
I would classify Molly as a “diamond in the rough”. I first noticed Molly at a team camp in the summer of 2006. She was a quick, competitive middle blocker at Lamanna HS that showed a little interest in our college. She contacted me in the late spring of 2007 and the rest will be history… She is a talented athlete that is learning how to be an all-around outside hitter. She is soaking the position up like a sponge and we look forward to Molly showing off a little bit on the outside this season!
Meghan De La Rosa, setter from Kennewick, WA (Kennewick HS) Meghan has had a super off-season to connect with her team. She had limited opportunities last season behind Miranda Gouin but is energetic and ready to lead her team. Meghan is eager to lead this team in 2008. I am excited to watch her grow into a great quarterback for our team.
Brynn Delong, middle blocker from Spokane, WA (Shadle Park HS) Brynn is 100% quick twitch fibers! With an off-season of passing and defense under her wing we are looking for this “Speedy Gonzales” to be controlled and calm on the outside. She has been making a shift from the middle to outside for the past year so watch for Brynn to be a weapon on offense and defense in 2008.
Nicole Solum, right side from Colbert, WA (Western Oregon, Mead HS)
Nicole is a veteraned player that has played at high levels during college, high school and club. Our team looks to Nicole for experience and leadership and she never disappoints. Nicole’s work ethic and competitive drive will give her just a few tools to be a go-to player for the Sasquatch!
Lisa Steinbach, middle blocker from Post Falls, ID (Post Falls HS)
I like to call Lisa Stein-BLOCK. She surpassed all coaches blocking expectations in 2008 with some phenomenal performances. Now with the blocking down watch for Lisa to become a more versatile offensive weapon this season. She comes into this season with more to prove!
Grethe Vogel, middle blocker from Pullman, WA (Pullman HS)
Grethe will continue to be a force in the middle for the Sasquatch. Last season she earned a starting role in the middle because she is a smart and savvy offensive weapon. Watch for Grethe to be a force on the block and good luck passing her tough float serves!!!
There are five new faces to the Bigfoot squad:
Beth Altena, Right side from Spokane, WA (Mead HS)
Alexandra Cey, Defensive Specialist from Spokane, WA (Mead HS)
Nicole Graybeal, Middle Blocker from Spokane, WA (North Central HS)
Kasey Jurich, Outside Hitter from Spokane Valley, WA (University HS)
Casey Williams, Defensive Specialist from Billings, MT (Skyview HS)
